President Buhari calls for peaceful, free and fair elections in Rivers
President Muhammadu Buhari has called on Rivers state peoples to conduct a peaceful and orderly election in the federal and state legislative rerun elections which is scheduled to take place in Rivers State tomorrow.
The President made the call through his Special Assisantant in Media and Publicitu, Femi Adesina at the state house to today.
President Buhari urge the politicians and their supporters to put the interest of the state in their minds first before the go out for the elections.
President Buhari also advise all the political parties that will take part in the election, their candidates, other stakeholders and all the people of the state to ensure that the polls are conducted without rigging, violence and intimidation of opponents and electoral officials.
"The rerun elections should not be seen as a do- or-die affair to the extent that people will be killed, maimed and property destroyed in a mindless display of crude primitive instincts. Innocent blood should never be sacrificed on the altar of political contest for temporary power,"
the President Buhari said.
He also charge the Independent National and Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a free, fair and transparent elections.
